Beyond the Textbook (Using Amplify Mathematics): Ready-to-Deliver Lessons and an Interactive, Dynamic Teaching and Learning Platform for Primary and Post-Primary Educators

This webinar is designed for primary and post-primary (Junior Cycle and Senior Cycle Mathematics) teachers who want to enhance their teaching with rich, interactive, and free digital resources. Focusing on the Amplify Maths platform (formerly part of Desmos), we will explore how to use these tools to move beyond the textbook and create deeper, more engaging mathematical learning experiences for students at every level.

Participants will discover how Amplify Maths activities support students in thinking critically, making meaningful connections, and exploring mathematical ideas represented in multiple ways. The highly visual, interactive, and exploratory nature of these resources makes mathematics more engaging and enjoyable for students — often leaving them eager to continue exploring and asking to do more.

While many demonstration examples will focus on Junior Cycle and Senior Cycle Mathematics, the webinar will also highlight the extensive range of primary-level resources available, as well as the wealth of content that supports higher-level senior cycle teaching. These examples will show how Amplify Maths can be used to support a number of learning outcomes at both Junior Cycle and Senior Cycle levels. Teachers will also learn how to navigate and make the most of the educator functionality, gaining confidence in integrating these tools into their classroom practice.

In addition, these resources can be particularly valuable for those working in learning support or numeracy development contexts, where building mathematical understanding step by step and exploring multiple representations of concepts can significantly support student progress.

Whether you teach at primary, junior cycle, or senior cycle level, or support learners in building foundational numeracy skills, this session will show you how to use Amplify Maths to enrich your lessons, promote deeper mathematical thinking, and make mathematics more dynamic, interactive, and engaging — all through a free, easy-to-use platform.

This webinar will be delivered by Aedamar O’Donnell, who has been teaching post-primary mathematics for several years. She has worked as a Mathematics Advisor with a National Support Service for Teachers, designing and facilitating professional development for mathematics teachers across the country. She has also worked with the State Examinations Commission and is keenly interested in supporting students to develop a deeper, more connected understanding of mathematics.
