Exploring Local History
This new Summer course extends an invitation to delve into the rich history of Sligo's political, cultural, social, and economic landscapes. The course focuses on a hands-on, interactive exploration of historical people, places, and events that have shaped both local and national identities. With a unique blend of field trips, digital technology, and collaborative project-based learning, participants will unearth Sligo's historical gems, from its ancient megalithic sites to its pivotal roles in Irish history.
The course will include field trips to local sites such as the Sligo town walking tour route, the Armada shipwreck on Streedagh Beach, and Ireland's oldest megalithic tombs in Carrowmore.
